Jewelry Making With Precious Metal Clay (PMC)
In 1990, scientists in Japan developed a combination of binders and fine metal particles to create a malleable material with the properties of clay, known as Precious Metal Clay (PMC). This product is now available to industry and jewelry lovers too.
PMC is also commonly called "Clay Silver" which, when heated, turns into pure silver. The binder in the material holds the silver particles together. When shooting, such as pulp normal shape, the binder burns away, allowing the money to connect particles and a solid piece of pure silver. The beauty of Clay Silver is it can be easily used at home with just a few pieces of specialized equipment, and can bring a whole new dimension to jewelry manufacturing techniques.

Cooking temperatures of the clay are around 1500 degrees F, which is applicable for most types of metal clays. Cooking time is about ten minutes, making the use of a small oven optimal choice for cooking processes.
Once cooked, the metal can be welded, filed, sanded and polished as any other metal, but it is advisable to polish the first surface to compact the surface structure. Once completed, the piece can be worn like any other piece of silver jewelry.
The money is available largely from clay jewelry and crafts vendors, the two major brands precious metals being Clay (PMC) and Art Clay Silver. Gold is available in clay, but its price is prohibitive for novice users. The money is clay a good starting point for exploring this versatile medium.
