Mardi Gras King Cake - the royal tradition of King Cake Continues
King Cakes are also deeply intertwined with the traditions of New Orleans and parades of Mardi Gras, Bourbon Street, and jambalaya. The city of New Orleans is proud to host the popular festival of Mardi Gras, and celebrants consider a Mardi Gras King Cake is a necessity. These unique delicacies are so coveted that people throughout the country about their their favorite bakery or bake in an oven for their family and friends.
A Mardi Gras King Cake is made from braids rich dough flavored with cinnamon, which takes the form of an oval, before being baked. Some of the most modern recipes may even have fillings chocolate, cream cheese, lemon, apple or strawberry. When the King Cake is removed from the oven and cooled, it is then glazed with icing and decorated with colored sugars. Sugars and braid cake triple origin as a way to honor the 3 Wise Men who brought gifts to the Christ Child. Each colored sugars has a meaning:
• Purple-Justice
• Gold-Power
• Green-Faith
Even when preparing these cakes is special, with cooking is done between the dates of the Twelfth Night (January 6th) and Ash Wednesday. There are thousands of king cakes prepared for the purchase and delivery for customers who have placed their personal weeks in advance. For many people having one of these candies Sweet is a sufficient reason for a party.
January 6th or Twelfth Night, officially introduced the carnival season, which is a much anticipated moment of year. It's time that the Christ Child was honored with gifts from the Magi. From the first time, the chips were small placed in the cake revelers to find. Sometimes people have chosen to use a coin, peas, or even a pecan. In the 19th century, a small jewel has been added to a king cake from wealthy families. The chips can bring happiness to one who has found and viewfinder would be king (or queen) of the ball.
This was the beginning of the 20th century that tradition has changed to place a baby in small plastic in the cake. That plastic baby representing the Christ child, and is placed in the cake after baking. Then the cake and shortbread decorated for nobody knows where the object is hidden. Everyone hopes to find the doll in their slice of the cake and cut the cake is an exciting time. Whoever finds the doll to be lucky and they also honored as the king or queen. According to tradition, they must also host a celebration of Mardi Gras next year and provide a new Mardi Gras King Cake for guests to enjoy.
