In online poker, there is no doubt that the Texas Hold em poker is still considered the most popular. But it probably would not take this place for long, as Omaha hold-em is steadily gaining ground in the popularity contest of poker. Omaha hold-em, or simply Omaha is the game of choice of many poker players because it is seen that the mathematical probabilities poker nerds welcome to computers is more obvious here. Also, because these probabilities are more apparent, said Omaha is more a mind game of gambling.
Another feature that makes it distinct from Omaha d'autres types of poker games is that in Omaha, it is not always the player with the highest hand wins the pot. The object of Omaha is to achieve with both the highest and lowest hand. The two players who received the highest and lowest hand respectively get to split the pot. In some cases two or more players are tied with the highest and lowest hand, and they split the pot between them. Of course it is entirely possible for only the player with the strongest hand to get the whole pot for himself.
However, there are restrictions on how a hand of cards can be considered as a low hand. First, the highest card in the hand must have a value not greater than eight. Secondly, the five cards making up the hand must all be single.
In addition, in Omaha, a player makes up his hand, either the highest or lowest, using exactly two of his four hole cards and exactly three of the five community cards.
Here's how Omaha is played, step by step:
1. The dealer deals four pocket cards to each player at a time. Once all players have their cards, the first betting round is completed. The person to the left of the dealer makes little blind and one to his left is the big blind. Other players can then check the big blind, the raise or fold.
2. After this first betting round is completed, The dealer deals three community cards, also called the flop. Another round of betting happens with players of awareness, control or fold. Then the dealer takes the fourth community card, called the tower, which is then followed by another round of betting with the subsequent recovery, checking or folding. The same thing happens with the fifth card, also known as River.
3. The showdown happens among the players who have not disappeared after the river is placed downwards. Again, players use exactly two hole cards and exactly three community cards. Players with the highest and lowest hand wins the pot and split it between them. If no hands who have qualified for the lowest hand, then the player who got the highest hand happens to have the pot full of himself.
