My plan when traveling cross country to play a tournament is still getting plenty of rest and ensure that I get to the installation early enough for me to acclimatise.
So I booked my flight at the last minute and arrived in Atlantic City, Just before midnight the night before the tournament as for planning.
When I went to the tournament registration, the line was about three and a half miles long, and suddenly the panic has spread: This thing was not going to sell, was it? I was really worried that my dog, Mushu, and I had traveled all this way and would not get a seat. You know, it's funny, I had not had a dog since I was a little child, and never really understood why people get so attached. Jennifer (Harman) used to tell me things like "Oh, I can not play too later;. dogs are home alone "
I replied, "So what? They are just dogs. They will be well on their own. "
Then I bought Mushu, my five-pound Chihuahua. Now I understand perfectly what was going through when Jennifer said she had to leave for go and take care of his dogs. I am totally sucked in. I can not go anywhere without my boyfriend. I called the Borgata in advance to ensure Mushu that could join me, and they obliged. It's a good boy, and does not bark a lot or soil the carpet.
Finally, after a grueling wait, I did it in front of the line, assuring myself one of the remaining seats in the tournament. All told, there would be 302 participants and a prize pool of more than 3 million. Mushu I took a walk in the park so he can do his business, and finally went to bed around 4 am; so be well rested.
The only disadvantage of bringing my dog was that I had to wake up early. The tournament began noon, but I have to get up early to take a walk for Mushu. Curiously, I was able to wake up at 10:30 am. Take the dog for a walk, have breakfast and go to Hold'em poker tournament on time. Sweet! The Borgata has given us $ 20 000 in starting chips and I had my stack to about $ 30,000 around midday. I took a beating hard for a small pot and had $ 24 500 when the hand came following key:
With blinds at $ 300 - $ 600 and an ante of $ 50, I limped to from the first position with 8 + 7 +. Everyone folded to the button, which makes a total of $ 3,000 to go.
I did not know the player well, but I was pretty sure his recovery meant he had a couple of high cards - either AK or AQ, or even AA, KK, QQ or. The price seems reasonable, so I called her up and took the flop heads up out of position: 5 + 2 + 3.
It was a decent flop for me, and I had a lot of options at my disposal. I could try a semibluff on the flop or I could try to win a big pot if I hit my color. Assuming that my opponent had a big pair or As a high, I decided to check. He put another $ 3,000, making an easy call for me. At this point, I did not know if I watched a pair ACE high or higher.
The turn of the 6. It was a great card for me. Not only does it give me a straight and a flush draw, he was also a scare card in the hand of my opponent. If he had no pair, he could not call, and if he had an overpair, it would be in a difficult situation.
I decided to use the "low lead" and bet $ 4500. If I checked Texas Hold poker. I would have to worry that my opponent would have bet too much for me to call. By leveraging a relatively small amount, I got a good deal on my drawing in a situation where I just could not be raised. Since my opponent had raised from the button, the council was unlikely to have helped.
I was a little surprised when he called. I had a new dilemma: Should I continue with the bluff if I miss, or just give up? The turn card may have given my opponent a draw spades, what appeared to be the most likely hand. Usually, I have a game plan for what I will do on the river, but If so, I had no idea how.
The river was the OK button, there was no need to worry, because I had the nuts now! I had $ 13 000 left and there were already more than $ 20,000 in the pot. My opponent seemed to be a little stubborn, so I decided to make it look like me.
