What does the dealer do with cards that were played?
like in blackjack i here people say card counting. but then i was watching the show breaking vegas and it said that like after the cards were played that hand they werent entered back into the deck. how do casinos have it set up?
It depends. If the cards are dealt out of a 6 deck shoe, once the cut card comes out the hand is played out then all 6 decks are shuffled and put back in the shoe. There are automatic shufflers containing 4-6 decks but the used cards are reloaded into the machine after 1 or 2 hands. All the decks are generally changed out once per shift, some casinos do it once per day. In a game where players actually touch the cards they may be changed out more frequently.
After the used decks come off the game, they are suited and often sold in the gift shop after they've been altered in some way. Some examples are a hole drilled in the middle of the deck or one corner of the deck shaved off, this is so they couldn't be slipped back onto a live game.
